●Key Development Directions: The department currently has three main development directions
(1) Photonic Devices and Materials: Cultivating professional capabilities in semiconductor-related industries such as semiconductor photonic devices, flat panel displays, organic light-emitting devices,
and LCD manufacturing processes.
(2) Photonic Precision Measurement: Aims to cultivate students' ability to use and apply measurement systems, focusing primarily on the concept of opto-mechatronic integration, combining optical systems, electronic and computer peripheral hardware, computer software, and optical information processing capabilities into a real-time measurement system. Ultimately enabling graduates to apply this knowledge in the semiconductor, precision machinery, and photonics industries as system or equipment engineers.
(3) Optical Communications and AI: Focuses on familiarity with the various photonic technologies and signal processing used in optical communications, along with the ability to use computer-aided design for chips and digital circuits. This also combines optoelectronic communications with artificial intelligence applications, with development directions including intelligent sensing and AI optical communication systems, cultivating professional talent with innovative and integrative capabilities.

Graduate Institute History
★ In the 2000 academic year, submitted an application to establish an additional Graduate Institute of Photonics and Materials Science and Technology
★ In the 2001 academic year, the Ministry of Education approved the review, but due to restrictions under junior college and institute of technology regulations, the establishment of the graduate institute was postponed and could not be officially approved
★ In early 2002, the Legislative Yuan amended the relevant law
★ In April 2002, official approval was granted and admissions began
★ Established the Doctoral Program of the Graduate Institute of Photonics and Materials Science and Technology in 2005
★ In 2008, the Department of Photonic Engineering and the Graduate Institute of Photonics and Materials Science and Technology merged into the Master's and Doctoral Program in Photonics and Materials Science and Technology, Department of Photonic Engineering
